Seaside Carousel Mall Seaside, Oregon

Seaside Carousel Mall

More than two dozen fancifully painted animals are featured on Seaside’s popular carousel — including a rabbit, a cat with a fish in its mouth, ostriches, a pig, a dancing bear, deer and, of course, horses. The carousel draws more than a quarter-million visitors every year, all eager to take a spin and experience the enchantment and nostalgia of its whimsical, tinkly soundtrack. (During Halloween, the animals get into the spirit, donning masks and hats for trick-or treating, and the music become a bit spookier. At Christmastime, Santa himself has been known to pay a visit.)

Surrounding the carousel is an array of shops, boutiques and eateries. From one-of-a-kind souvenirs to artisanal crafts, and from delectable coffee drinks to savory Chinese dinners, there’s something to delight every taste. Engage in arcade games or thrilling rounds of laser tag for added excitement.

Seaside Carousel Mall which is just 1/2 mile from The Ocean Front at Seaside, occupies the historic site of the Bungalow Dance Hall, which helped propel the town to regional prominence after World War I. Established in 1920 to cater to a burgeoning local population and growing tourist base, this venue became renowned for its big-band performances, attracting rising Hollywood stars and notable musicians like Duke Ellington, Bing Crosby and Glenn Miller. Couples danced popular styles like the two-step, Charleston, jitterbug and foxtrot around the central bandstand, mingling with visiting celebrities. Though the Bungalow Dance Hall appeared unassuming, its star-studded events drew crowds from across the Northwest, leaving a lasting mark on Seaside’s cultural landscape.
