Beaches and Nature

The North Gateway Park

At the north end of the Neawanna Natural History Park is a park with open space and hiking trails into a large forest along high-saline salt marsh near the estuary bay. This land is culturally and spiritually significant to the Clatsop people and the North Coast Land Conservancy protects all of the forest here in perpetuity.

Necanicum River and Estuary Walking Trail

Necanicum River and Estuary Walking Trail leads out to sea through rugged sand dunes. The Necanicum River is popular for boating, crabbing and fishing. The Estuary Walking Trail is accessible from the 12th Avenue parking lot and weaves through more unspoiled territory for about a mile, eventually ending at a rocky area near the mouth of the bay.

Broadway Park

Broadway Park is Seaside’s oldest community park. It has sports fields, basketball courts, an award-winning skate park, swimming pool, youth center and access to the Neawanna River for canoeing and kayaking. And it is located right across the street from Seaside’s new Public Library!

Ecola State Park

Wrapping around Tillamook Head between Seaside and Cannon Beach, Ecola State Park stretches along nine miles of coastline and offers outstanding sightseeing and recreation opportunities combined with a storied past. Though the scenic and hiking opportunities may be the main allure, the diversity of outdoor recreation including picnicking, tidepooling, surfing and wildlife observation make Ecola State park a destination year round.

Tillamook Head Traverse Hike

The Tillamook Head Traverse Hike is on the south side of Seaside. This hike is mostly forested but offers occasional ocean views, including Hikers Camp, with a viewport of Tillamook Rock Lighthouse. In this area there are also some WWII-era bunkers.

Arcadia Beach State Recreation Site

A shady grove just off the highway and a few feet from the sandy ocean beach below, Arcadia State Recreation Site is located a mile south of Cannon Beach. Take a lunch break on your way north or south, or plan for a day at the beach. Bring your blanket, kick off your shoes and feel the waves lapping at your ankles. Explore the beach and its tidepool areas to the north and south. Or watch for surfers just off shore. Please remember to keep an eye on the ocean, know if the tide is coming in or going out and explore tidepool areas gently and safely.

Fort Stevens State Park

A military installation that guarded the mouth of the Columbia River from the Civil War to World War II, Fort Stevens today is a 4,300-acre park offering camping, beachcombing, lakes, trails, wildlife and an historic shipwreck.

Fort Clastop

Fort Clatsop was the winter encampment for Lewis and Clark’s Corps of Discovery during the rainy winter of 1805-06. Today, the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park allows you to absorb the history and culture while experiencing majestic coastal vistas.
